The purpose behind The Story of the Seed project is to see the effects of germination, and the effects sodium has on growing seeds. Students are put in groups of four with a specific Brassica Oleracea seed, for example my team got the Savoy Cabbage. Each person gets ten seeds. Then each person gets water with different salt concentrations. Our class used H2O, 1%, 4%, and 8% as our salt concentrations. The seeds are watered on paper towels, and are kept in Ziploc bags for at least nine days. After at least nine days your best seeds are ready to be transplanted into pots with soil. Then three new seeds are planted with your best ones as backups, and to also see the difference between the two seeds. Your teacher then takes your seeds, and takes care of them for a while. After a few weeks he will bring them back, so your group can plant your plant in the school garden. From that point the students can observe the development of the plant. Throughout this entire project students are asked questions that they have to answer involving the development of the seed.
This is our seed story. Four Freshman are growing cabbage seeds. They are trying to learn more about seeds and where food come from. They do know that it only takes one seed to make a difference. We are the Savage Cabbage
